September and October are one of the Adriatic’s best-kept secrets: the summer warmth lingers, while the crowds head home. Here are six reasons to time your sailing holiday in Croatia for the autumn.
1. The sea is still summer-warm. In September the water is often 24–25 °C and stays pleasantly swimmable into October, while the air hovers around 22–27 °C. You get the summer swimming and sunbathing — just with half as many people on the beaches and in the bays.
2. Empty bays, quiet marinas. The peak-season crowds disappear, so it’s far easier to find a good spot in the harbours, and even the most beautiful anchorages aren’t packed. In the konobas you’re met with calm, genuine service rather than a tourist menu.
